Golf courses within 30 minutes

The modern 27 holes golf course, planned and built up by Robert Trent Jones Sr covers an area of over one million square meters. An ideal place among secular trees, streams, small lakes and gentle undulations of the land for performing one of his most successful courses which fits in a harmonious way into the splendid and intact countryside in the back-ground of the massif of the Mount Rosa. The Castelconturbia golf course stands on the earldom of Conturbia, sideways the seventeenth century Castle. The modern course has been ranked among the top ten courses in continental Europe.

The Conte Course is a par 72 with a design that is reminiscent of a links course, featuring wide open spaces, numerous flat sections, large lakes and a wild rough in border areas, framed by views of the Monte Rosa massif. The Bonora Course is a par 72 with a lively design that is reminiscent of a parkland course, developing over a large hill area surrounded by wild nature with numerous untouched streams and woods, as typical of the Ticino natural park area.

Inaugurated in 1993, it was designed by architect Piero Mancinelli and built in a predominantly wooded area once owned by the Visconti family. Characterized of many natural obstacles (trees, ponds, streams) often requiring placing the shot with particular attention to make the next one really easy. The design of the track allows, one to play two, six, nine or eighteen holes always ending up near the club house. The rough and hilly route offers breathtaking views of Monte Rosa and Lake Maggiore and makes the game stimulating and enjoyable for players of all levels.

Although Varese golf course dates back to 1934, it still offers a big challenge and has the potential to host major golf events. Almost all the holes narrow considerably after about 200 meters, so it’s not a course that automatically favours big-hitters. Varese’s layout has been designed to offer 18 very different holes. The course takes advantage of the natural, undulating terrain and indeed it’s rare to play a shot from a perfectly flat lie. For approaching the greens, players will use their full club set, as there is a perfect balance of long, medium and short par 5s, 4s and 3s. So to card a good score at Varese, you need to be a complete player and have a full range of shots.
