Hotel Villa La Massa

Villa La Massa is a fascinating Medici dwelling of the 16th century on the outskirts of Florence. In 1950 it was turned into a hotel and continues with its five hundred years of history, to tell us tales of Renaissance splendour and the lifestyle of Florentine aristocrats. 51 luxury rooms, all different from one another and divided into classical Tuscan-style buildings ( the Noble Villa, the Villino, the Mill, Casa Colonica and La Limonaia). Each room offers wonderful views of the park, the Chianti hills or the Arno river.

Golf courses within 30 minutes

The course was designed by an Englishman and an Irishman, Cecil Blandford and Peter Gannon. They used the natural contours of the Chianti slopes to produce an outstanding course, threaded through the indigenous vines, olive trees, maritime pines, and broom. The course is not long but demands a high degree of skill. The greens are small and well defended by bunkers while the sloping fairways also present a great challenge. To play Ugolino is not just to indulge in a game of golf, it is to wander through a landscape of great natural beauty, surrounded by olive and other fruit trees. It is an unforgettable and uplifting experience. In his book Fifty Places to Play Golf Before You Die, Chris Santella includes Ugolino as one of the fifty places to play.

Imagine a golf course which flanks an ancient park, where the fairway is ondulated and the sand of the finest. Imagine eighteen holes designed as only a world famous player, Arnold Palmer, could design them: perfect lines of play, greens protected by insidious bunkers and strategic water hazards. In the heart of Tuscany just a stone’s throw from such an important art city, the highly emotive geometric lines merge perfectly with the landscape. The course is challenging and able to test your ability searching for the perfect round. That’s why playing here will be an unforgettable experience, whatever your level of skill
